Christmas Fayre 2015

3rd February 2016 By juliewalker

Once again we had a fantastic turn out for our Christmas Fayre, raising an amazing £1,089 our best total ever! The money raised will be used to benefit all children throughout the school for extra curricular activities. I would like to thank you all for your continued support and for your generous donations of cakes, tombola and raffle prizes. Once again the ‘Friends of the School’  volunteers and Julie Bray did an amazing job of organising such a large event.

Key Stage Two SATs

3rd February 2016 By juliewalker

Children in Year Six complete SATs before they leave for secondary school. Last year their results were as follows:

 ReadingWritingGPSMaths
Level 492%84%64%80%
Level 528%12%24%16%
RWM*80% of pupils achieved Level 4 in all 3 subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths

A more accurate way of measuring the performance of a school is by looking at the progress made by pupil between Year Two and Year Six.

The government expects the majority of children to make two levels progress between Year Two and Year Six classes. Three levels progress is better than expected progress.

The figures in bold show that our school exceeded national progress results for all subjects.

Vice Chair of Governors – Mrs Lorraine Reid

6th November 2015 By juliewalker

I am a community elected governor who was co-opted and appointed by the full governing body.

  • Term of office end date – 28/09/2023
  • Vice Chair of Governors (expiry 10/10/2021)
  • Member of the following committees – Children’s Committee and First/Pay Review Committee
  • Voting rights on all committees named above
  • Register of interests – None declared

I have recently been elected as a member of the Governing Body since September this year. As an individual who has lived in Willington most of my life, I understand the pressures and issues future generations face in our community. I want to do what I can to help tackle these issues and ensure positive outcomes and an increase in personal aspirations are achievable by all.

My personal commitment and interests are in my child and other children’s development, well-being and education, now and through their school years. As a parent, I want to ensure that not only educational attainment but also a child’s well-being is considered, as an important factor of school life. This approach can be hard to attain with limited resources and funding, but one which I have personally seen Willington Primary take on board and tackle. However, I understand they cannot do this alone and need to work in collaboration with parents to achieve the best outcome for the child.

I therefore became a governor to support my child in his learning and development. By helping Willington Primary to set school targets, which improve and maintain the high standards they have set themselves to treat each child as an individual, I am able to ensure an inclusive, good quality, needs basis education for all.

Year 3’s Rock Song

23rd October 2015 By juliewalker

Year 3 performed their ‘rock’ song to a full class of parents and carers this week. Children have been learning all about the Stone Age and decided to turn their learning into a song! I call it a rock song because it was about how rocks/stones were used in the Stone Age – for example to build Stonehenge! As always the event was extremely well  supported and a great time was had by all!
