Welcome to Year 3
- Class teacher: Miss Smith
- Teaching Assistant: Miss Louth
We would like to welcome you to Year 3.
Miss Smith and Miss Louth are looking forward to working with the children and providing the support and guidance they need to maximise their learning potential and become the best that they can be.
It is essential that children try their hardest both in school and with their homework. We have found in previous years that the children who consolidated their learning by completing their homework well obtained better results at the end of the year.
All children will use Oxford Reading Buddy. This is a digital reading service to support children’s reading development at home as well as at school.
Oxford Reading Buddy contains hundreds of digital books and book-quizzes all matched to each child’s reading ability. Children can earn badges for good reading behaviours, be coached in their understanding by their personal ‘Reading Buddy’, take quizzes and record all the reading they do. Everything is captured so that your child’s teacher can see how they’re getting on.
Please log in to Oxford Reading Buddy when your child brings home their sign-in card and have a look around. Do encourage your child to use it regularly and discuss what they are reading with them. You might be interested in watching them reading one or two of the Coaching eBooks because Reading Buddy is a good model of how to support and encourage children’s comprehension skills as they read.
When your child is taking a quiz, please try to provide a quiet workspace for them, but resist the temptation to help them because their answers will help your child’s teacher understand their needs.
If you don’t have a tablet or PC at home, the service works on smartphone as well. For more detailed information, go to this address and choose Parent Support: https://support.oxfordreadingbuddy.com/ or look at the introductory video at https://www.oxfordreadingbuddy.com/uk
English and Maths
Homework will be given on paper every Friday and must be completed by the following Thursday. This will give the children the opportunity to complete it at a convenient time – it also allows your child the time to come to me with questions, should they need to. Homework that is not completed will be done in golden time on Friday afternoon. If you require paper copies of homework please ask at the office.
Children will be focusing on various spelling rules throughout the year. These will be completed on Spelling Shed. More details will follow.
PE will take place on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Children are to come to school wearing their PE kits , including t-shirt, trainers and jogging bottoms or leggings on this day. Shorts are not required.
If you have any questions please message via ClassDojo or contact the school office. If you are not on Class Dojo please ask for a login code.
Long Term Plans
The long term plan provides an overview of each year group’s curriculum by subject. The long term plans may alter slightly as the year progresses as we evaluate and refine our curriculum to ensure it best meets the needs of our children. If you would like more detailed information about a particular subject, please go to the Curriculum section of our website
