Nursery

Welcome to our Nursery

  • Teacher: Mrs Britton and Mrs Barnett
  • Teaching Assistants: Mrs Heslop, Miss Dinsdale and Mrs Hudson

In our foundation stage classes, nursery and reception classes, activities are planned to enable the children to acquire the “Characteristics of effective learning,” which are learning skills and attitudes which will serve them well for life.

We help them to engage with and be excited by activities so that they will:

  • Find out and explore
  • Play with what they know
  • Be willing to “have a go”

We help them to be motivated so that they will

  • Be involved and concentrate
  • Keep trying
  • Enjoy achieving what they set out to do

We help them to think and be creative so that they will

  • Have their own ideas
  • Make links
  • Choose ways to do things

These characteristics of effective learning underpin everything we do.

Activities are planned within the Prime and Specific areas of learning in ways which allow children to develop the characteristics of effective learning.

Activities in nursery are developed around a theme or topic which is developed from the children’s interests. Through observation of the children relevant focused activities are planned and the learning environment is enhanced accordingly. (see parents information board for further information about the theme/ topic)

Each day children experience a short key group, a focused activity to extend their skills in one of the 7 areas of learning, child initiated time to consolidate their learning in the environment both indoors and out.
