Welcome to Year 2
Reading in Year 2 – Home Readers – It is important children change their books every week to help them develop their reading skills (these will be returned on Mondays and Fridays). Please return their books and reading record signed once you have completed the book. Your child will be sent home with Read Write Inc book until they are on Orange books, when they will move on to Oxford Reading Tree. Please encourage your child to read as much as possible over the coming year including allocated Bug Club books.
It is vital that your child develops key skills in reading as there is a clear link between reading and writing. If a child works hard on their reading skills and is challenged to the best of their ability this will reflected in both their writing and speaking. (see overleaf for further information on handwriting).
Homework in Year 2 – The learning log homework book will be sent home each week on a Wednesday and should be returned to school the following Monday. Please complete the activity from your learning log each week. Children will also receive spellings to learn and practise and these will be tested on Monday. Until your child has completed the Read Write Inc programme, we will also send home sounds weekly for you to practise.
Rewards – Children will receive dojo points and/or a ‘dip in the box’ for effort,
special achievements and for regularly returning their reading books and completing homework (including Bug Club reading).
PE – is on Tuesdays. Please ensure all children have a full PE kit (t-shirt, shorts and trainers or plimsolls) in school on PE day and all jewellery is removed. We also ask that
children with long hair have it tied up.
Please do not hesitate to come and see us at the end of the school day (or send a Dojo message) with any questions, concerns or comments.
Each term you will receive a Curriculum Overview which will inform you about the different topics we are covering throughout the year.
