Year 5

Welcome to Class 5

  • Class Teacher: Miss Fenn
  • Teaching Assistant: Mrs Henderson

Welcome to Year 5.

Miss Fenn will be your child’s class teacher this year.  Mrs Henderson, year 5’s Teaching Assistant will support the teaching and learning in Year 5.

Reading

It is essential that children read their Accelerated Reading book every night to ensure that they pass the book quiz. However, because the children are in upper Key Stage 2, they do not need to read out loud to an adult. It is recommended by the Accelerated Reading scheme that to ensure maximum progression in reading, children should read for at least 25 minutes per night (feel free to read more!). Everyone should bring in their Accelerated Reading book to school every day. There will be sanctions if children have not read each night, which will be to read for some of their playtime/lunchtime to catch up the required 25mins. To encourage the children to read, there will be opportunities to celebrate and reward reading with treats, rewards and prizes.

Homework

Homework will be uploaded onto seesaw every Friday and must be completed and saved by the following Thursday. This will give you the opportunity to complete it at a convenient time. If you are having difficulty accessing seesaw to complete homework, I will provide opportunities to complete them at school. Any incomplete homework must be completed in ‘Golden Time’ on a Friday afternoon.

Spelling

Each week, the children will be given a list of words, which they should learn how to spell at home. There will be opportunities to practise in class but it important that your child also practises at home. This can be done through spelling shed or any other way which suits their learning style such as writing them out or being asked to spell them to an adult. Spelling lists will be given each Friday and tested the following Friday.

PE

In the autumn term, PE will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons with Mr Littlefair. Your child should wear their PE kit to school on this day in preparation for this session.

Willington Primary School’s PE Uniform consists of:

  • Pair of shorts/ jogging bottoms/leggings
  • T-shirt and hoody/tracksuit top etc
  • Black plimsolls or trainers

As the children will be doing physical activity, please make sure they wear appropriate clothing – no jeans, shoes, boots, flip-flops, crop tops/ belly tops etc. We will be doing our PE sessions outside so please ensure that their clothing is appropriate for the weather.

Class Do Jo

If you are already signed up to Do Jo, you do not need to do anything. However, if you haven’t been part of the Class Do Jo system in the past, this is a great way to see how your child is doing in class as there will be photographs of what the children are doing in class, which gives you a glimpse into their life at school. It is also a great messaging tool for both myself and you! I can send reminders etc and you can ask questions about anything; forgotten information, clarification, arrange to see me etc.
