At Willington Primary School we have a ‘Playground Buddy Scheme’ to help develop pupils’ social development on a lunchtime. The strategy initiated by the Anti-Bullying Service of Durham County Council aims to encourage positive relationships between children and reinforces ideas of how it might feel to be the victim of bullying. Children in year 5 have been chosen as buddies. Buddies provide help and support to children who feel socially excluded by listening to their needs, talking to them and playing games with them. The children thoroughly enjoy their responsibility and are very enthusiastic about creating happier play times.
