Our Eco Team and Recycling

Willington Primary School Eco Team is a child led club involving hands-on learning that gets the whole school and the wider community involved in exciting environmental projects.
They completed an environmental audit and as a team decided that they wanted to focus on these three issues:
  1. Energy – they want to reduce the amount of electricity that we use in school. That means turning of lights in unused classrooms and interactive whiteboards when they are not in use.
  2. Water – using re-usable bottles on school trips instead of single ones. Since September we have used over 200 single use bottles!
  3. School grounds – we want to make more use of our school garden – planting more plants and maintaining the outdoor areas.
Mrs Wilcox and the team met with Linda from the Co-op to talk about a joint soft plastic recycling scheme. The Co-op are going to provide us with a bin and we will be collecting in school.
Click the following link to find further information about the scheme and what can be recycled.
We also have a ‘design a mascot competition’ for Year 2-6 (forms went out yesterday). The ECO Team will choose a winner from each class and the Co-op will choose an overall winner and provide prizes.
